What to do about self regulating difficulties?

by Mauri
(Mississippi)

My 12 year old son has been seeing a OT for SIT, but no one has ever mentioned his self regulating issues. He has trouble getting to sleep, being woke up, excessive eating, etc. I am looking for information on what to do about these very bothersome issues, our OT has not addressed.

Sleep Problem

ILS listening therapy has a pillow that costs about $200 but you own it. You can adjust the sound and it help the brain within the music to relax - you should keep it on a low volume as it can keep them awake. Go to the ILS listening website. Many have found this a lifesaver in helping children stay asleep. This is at least in the affordable range.

OT should be able to offer help in these areas. If they do not specialize in pediatric care for SPD you may want to try and find one that does. We were very lucky to find a location that has several OTs that specialize in SPD.
