Teenager with oral sensitivity

by Fiona

This issue has affected my daughter since she was 2 but I didn't know what it was until recently. She is now 15.

It has a huge impact upon her life and now she has braces that has been incredibly challenging as her mouth is twice as sensitive as most other people. It is traumatic visit every 6 weeks when she has to go... They are as gentle as they can be but she is in tears by the time we leave.

She has very limited diet and will not try anything new . She lives on packets foods that she feels safe will always be the same texture and taste. I wish I had known more about this condition when she was younger as I might have been able to try some of the therapies I have read about on here. I am looking into an OT therapy assessment as that is the only thing I haven't tried as yet.

Any suggestions to assist me would be very welcome.

WE thought she was a fussy eater, but it is so much more than that....

Teenager with oral sensitivity

I have tried finding help for a sixteen year old that has these same issues since birth. Pediatrician never took it serious, I have tried unsuccessfully to find help in my area. The smell, sight and touching of any new foods is unbearable for them and is now affecting their mood and causing a great deal of anxiety. We live in Southeastern Connecticut and any advice or recommenations are appreciated.
