SPD at 68

by Davey
(San Diego)

I have always been touch sensitive, unable to deal with multiple inputs of noise, light, etc.

Reading The Autistic Brain I saw SPD mentioned and at age 68 I finally understood what I was dealing with. I was a classic case - and very premature (only survived as I was at a very advanced hospital) with a very stressed mother.

Using one of the checklists for SPD I score 110 while my brother, also born premature the year before me, scores only a 15. He has not had any on the problems I have.

It is important to realize that SPD does not end with childhood. Understanding what it is makes it much easier to cope with and could also help make better education and career choices.
