Sleeping on his own

My 3 yr old grandson needs someone to rub his back in order to fall asleep. This is after reading 3 - 5 books. He now has a 5 mo old sister who sleeps through the night, no problem. I know it bothers my grandson. I told him maybe we can try to have him sleep on his own gradually, beginning at nap time.




He seems to be all for it. I have no problem rubbing his back until he falls asleep, but I don't know if the is a healthy thing to do.

I want to get him a star lamp which projects stars onto the ceiling which may help him. I don't know.

What do you think? any ideas?
