Potty Training

Hi. I have a 5 1/2 year old with SPD who still isn't potty trained. I'm not worried and neither is his pediatrician. He's on Mirilax to make him go every day. He still has a VERY long way to go before he will be even close to being trained.

My question is: At what age were some of your SPD children out there potty trained?

I'm just wondering how many more years we will be at this.

My son w/ SPD is almost 8 now. He was about 5 and a half when he finally was potty trained. Our pediatrician had a talk with him and basically bribed him. She told him she's give him a special prize and she called him every day for a few days. He must have gotten tired of having to tell her he didn't earn his prize yet because after a few days he was trained.

Potty Training
by: Deirdre

Hi, my son was diagnosed with SPD in November 2008. He is 7yrs. old, and wasn't potty trained (actually going in the toilet) until he was 5 yrs. old.

As far as the clean up part, he is still not very good at it. I've been homeschooling him through our school district because of his sensory issues, toilet training issues, and developmental delays.

He is also taking Miralax for Encopresis, because of his eating habits. I've also been wondering when he will catch up with everything. Thanks

Perfect example

This is indeed a perfect example of how diverse SPD is. My son now 5, has been potty trained since he was 14 mos with only 2 stress induced "accidents". I still cant get him to flush to save our lives.

A friend who is 3 is in the process of being successfully potty trained and will flush over and over, while another friend at 6 is quite a bit behind the 3 yr old and seems indifferent to flushing.
