Educational need

The frustrating part is that there must be a documented educational need in order for the school to be required to provide services. So just the dx from a doctor is not enough (in the schools eyes) to warrant the service.

You need to get a lawyer now not later. The school is breaking your child's 4th and 14th amendment. When the school finds out you are in knowledge of the laws they will do everything they can to make you out to be a neglectful parent not attending to your child's needs. We have battled our school district for years and all along they were keeping track of every time we had to reschedule a doctors appointment or missed school they were writing it down. There were 8 calls to CPS before we even had a clue what they were doing. It's going to be a battle for a long time and your child needs all the services that are rightfully offered to them by law. Seek help from an attorney now before it gets worse.

Not ours..
by: Anonymous

My son was diagnosed with ADHD, and SPD - I went before the entire board in our school district.. and they flat out denied him any type of PT or OT because his diagnosis was not autism. He was so far behind with balance, coordination, couldnt even hop on one leg at the age of 7, had auditory sensitivity, etc.. Its unfair - and just wrong. On top of that, insurance wouldnt even recognize his diagnosis as qualifying (BCBS)- I had to completely pay for his therapy out of pocket every month, which was in the tune of 600-800 per month. (Maybe your district will look at this differently, but ours would not budge.) -- I will cross my fingers for you that the school complies, or insurance -Good Luck
