Language disorder

My son is 3 and 1/2 year old. He imitates us well in speech, exactly same tone, same expression but lacks reasonable use of language in expression. he can sing well, write well, count well, recognise alphabets and numbers well. can even read simple words.
he uses exactly the same sentences in the situations that we have used but cannot answer if asked what he needs or wants to eat. He is under ASD. Do I need to go for CAPD. Please help. Anybody having same case, what are the possibilities of improvement.
