Help me understand

My son is 8 years old and has been diagnosed with dyslexia, but I think there is more. He is bright in science, history and art. However he has a hard time and does not like loud noises or certain smells even when I can't smell them. He does not know how to let things go and will sit there and cry for a few hours about it and say how we don't love him. Is this all part of the sensory problems?

Hi
I was the same as child & I have SPD.
When I cried about something it felt like the worst sadness on earth.Like everyone & everything was against me.I would cry for hours over something that wouldn't upset other children(my siblings).
Noise still to this day like crowds laughing & screaming will make me cover my ears with my hands.
I couldnt count and add & subtract large number & still cant.
Smells can drive you out a room!I understand that very well.
You need to just be sympathetic & if possible take him to an SPD therapist.
When I was a kid in the 70s there was no such luxury.I was just the "different one, difficult one"

Good luck with your boy.I hope he doesnt suffer like did withour knowing what it is.
