Granddaughter loves touching cold skin

My 5 year old granddaughter loves to touch cold skin, especially ear lobes. She can't seem to fall asleep without touching and stroking arms and ears. Her teacher says she does it in class with 2 particular children and strokes their arms. She has always been this way from a baby and gets very upset if she cant touch your skin.




It is becoming a problem because her mummy cant get her to sleep without having to lay with her while she strokes and drops off to sleep. She wakes in the night and wants more of the same. She also still has a dummy (pacifier) when she is tired and we have tried everything to get her to give it up but she just won't. Its too hard a battle for her mum, who is a single parent.

Any help or suggestions please?
