Can SPD be treated with Horseback riding as therapy?

Can SPD be treated with Horseback riding as therapy? It has been suggested that this is a full sensory activity for a 9 year old boy. Has anyone had any experience with this?

SPD
by: Anonymous

My 10yr old was diagnosed with SPD when he was 5 and started horse riding last year. For him, it has been the best thing we've ever found. It has improved his muscle tone and balance but far more than that! He has a bond with them, loves the feel of their fur and constantly comments on all the 'smells' in a positive way. It's like a sensory buffet, total satisfaction for all the senses :D

Horse Therapy
by: Maren

My 9 year old son and I both do therapeutic horseback riding. We ride on gaited horses such as the Missouri Foxtrotter. Yes, it is being quite effective as a treatment for both of us and our unique manifestations of SPD.
