I believe humor is great medicine (its much cheaper to find humor in your day than to take a rest in the Psych Unit). Please do not take offense to these quips, because most are real experiences from my life.
You know your the parent of a special kid when....
... You you have any of the following- slide, rockwall, trampoline, or swing- IN your house.
... You have your own signature stamp (with a changeable date)
... Any of the following people can recognize you by voice--superintendent, principal, police, or anyone at the courthouse.
... You carry a 4 inch binder for each child with all their "important papers".
... You color code your meds so you can quickly pick out the right ones for the right child.
... You've ever sent your own sheets and blankets to a sleepover at grandmas because her's are "too itchy".
... You have seasoning's in your purse in case you stop for lunch with the kids.
... When you accidentally count your TSS and/or MT when indicating family size.
... When your everyday vocabulary includes more acronyms than actual words. (ie: OT,MT,TSS,ADHD,PTSD,ASD,SPD...)
... When you know more about your therapist than your best friend.
... If you have ever been banned and/or kicked out of a public place because of a melt down.
... If you've ever been shopping and had someone try to "educate you" on disciplining your child.
But most importantly.... You love someone so much you would fight like a mother lion to get the appropriate services your child needs and deserves.
