Wet Feet Syndrome?

by Rome
(Legazpi City, Philippines)

Good day,

It's only recently that I became aware of SPD. In my search to explain a certain longing in my everyday living. So here's my story. When I was a child and up until now, I have this intense longing to wet my feet. If it's not wet then it doesn't feel right. It often drives me crazy if my feet is not wet or if it's exposed in the air for a long time. That is why I prefer closed shoes than slippers cause that way I feel comfortable.

When I was a child this weird longing often gives me shame because as a child I most of the time use to saliva to wet my feet if there's no water available. I know it is gross and all but at that time I felt like the most reasonable thing to do. I simply can't help myself. Growing up, I've learned that the use of lotion manifests the same effect as using water or saliva, however not every lotion will do. There are only specific brands that helps. I don't know what this is so I'm wondering if you consider this as SPD. Please do reply because I really want to know. Thank you.

Rome

My solution
by: Anonymous

After years and years of keeping lotion and a wet washcloth on my bedside table (I'm 50 and I've been dealing with this since I was about 5, so I've tried just about everything), I read that someone tried putting a hot water bottle down by their feet and it helped them. So I tried a heating pad down by my feet and I almost never have to apply lotion or wet my feet with a washcloth at night.

I also don't wake up frequently to reapply lotion, etc. The heating pad is on high, so it gets a bit hot at first, but you can move your feet aside if necessary and it will still be warm. I think the reason why this has worked for me is not because the heat will make my feet sweat, but the heat somehow "shocks" my feet so I don't feel the sensation of them being dry. I say that because it works instantly. This has been a game changer for me!! Doesn't solve the problem with my hands, lol, but at least it's not my hands AND my feet anymore!

Is this SPD curable?
by: Anonymous

My family thinks I am just being gross when I just recently told them I wet my feet with saliva during my primary school days. I've come to stop using my saliva just after I went to secondary where it was required to use closed shoes.

But as I grow older, I've come to realize that this syndrome has been with me longer than I expected.

I use a mosquito net just to bay my urge to wet my feet at night when I'm already in bed because lotions and oils are not good for my pockets. Do I need medical intervention?

Me too!

I thought I am the only one in the world. Back when I was child, I don't remember exactly when but I had a habit of wetting my feet with saliva. I don't know but it feels really good and it is so uncomfortble when my feet are dry. Fast forward to today, I use baby oil to wet my feet. And even when I try not to wet my feet to be normal, I just can't help but to put an oil to my feet. But when I found out that I am not the only one, I feel so relieved. I thought I am so weird.

It's weird to see so many people who have this! It's true that medical people don't seem to understand (being an ex-nurse myself). I first got the feeling around mouth and hands, followed by my feet in my late teens.

I have been diagnosed in my 30s with SPD, ADHD and autism. I have recently been struggling with a nerve based pain (seperate back/sciatica issue) and have been given a low dose of medication for nerve pain. The pain/dryness/burning on my hands and feet have reduced within days. For those willing to try this route, it might work.

Good luck to all of you, hopefully this issue will be understood soon.

SAME!! Thanks to a stranger on Reddit who shared this page
by: Anonymous

As a young boy, I always found myself going to the bathroom and putting water on my feet. I didn't realise why or what but it used to feel nice. It certainly helped in sleep.

Now, I am 34 years old, and moisturizing lotions are my best friend before going to sleep. I have a condition called hyperhidrosis, so using lotions during the day means triggering sweaty palms and feet for the rest of the day, so I only use them at night.

I am so glad to find so many "my people" who also have this... quirk?

and special thanks to the kind stranger who posted the link to this page on my year-old post on the hyperhidrosis subreddit.

What is this condition??
by: Anonymous

I've been following this page for a while since this is the only thing I see when I search google for anything that talks about feet wetting. I decided now to contribute my own.

I am also from Philippines, particularly in Bicol Region and I've also had this condition since I was a child. I remember my whole family used to scold me for always having wet floors or for putting saliva on my feet. I cannot explain to them how I feel without it. But it's irritating and I feel restless and very uncomfortable when my feet are dry. I always have a sort of trench feet where my soles are white with small "craters" because of constant wetting. I remember having so much pain because of athlete's foot and the wounds made it so hard to walk.

As I grew up, I stopped using saliva, thank goodness. I started used lotion and petroleum jelly but those don't give me satisfaction as much as water can. So I started to get small containers like empty alcohol or cologne bottles and fill it with a solution of water and alcohol. I use drops of it every night until I fall asleep. I rub my feet together with drops of water on them. If I visit other houses, I would not have the bottle and I can get by with just wearing socks but it is so hard to sleep.

My problem now is I always have wounds on my feet. Sometimes I just wear socks around the house and I will not get the urge to wet my feet so the wounds would dry up. However, I would still take them off after some time as I still prefer to have my feet wet. It feels like addiction really. Anyway, what is this? I've read a lot of theories here and I am really interested to know of other theories. But I can't help but feel special because looks like we are all rare ones😅😄

I also used to wet my feet with my saliva when I was a kid and my siblings made fun of me because of it. I can't remember when it started but it became probably a mannerism. But now I still wet my feet but ofc not with my saliva. I always buy alcohol and apply it on my feet all the time. It's cool and wet, making me relax. I really want to get rid of this problem.

Relieved I'm not alone.
by: Anonymous

I'm so happy I'm not the only one. All my family knows I need lotion before going to sleep.

When I sleep over anyone's house that I'm related to they automatically ask me before bed if I have my own lotion.

I never thought anything big about it and my family never question me which makes me realize now how lucky I am.

Lotion is my addiction
by: Anonymous

Hi. I've been dealing with this exactly the way most of you explained since I was a child. I've used saliva as a kid. Now I buy lotion in bulk to satisfy this habit/problem/addiction.

I'm not really sure what to call it. My problem with it is I end up destroying my bedding with lotion because I'm constantly applying it. Recently I've realized that doing it seems to calm my nerves. I seem to do it a lot more when I'm under stress or experiencing some type of negative event in my life. I do feel weird doing it because I know it isn't "normal" behavior. My family has no answer and probably doesn't understand it either but they support me in my madness. I feel a sense of withdrawal when I'm out of lotion. I will constantly wake up during the night if I don't have lotion. I will look for anything that can substitute.

What is this thing I've been dealing with my whole life?

Heating pad
by: Anonymous

Someone made a comment about using a hot water bottle in bed to make their feet hot so they would sweat and that helped them. So I tried using a heating pad down by my feet and that has helped me immensely! It doesn't solve the problem with my hands, but it's easier to apply lotion just to my hands. My feet don't really sweat, but I think the heat (I have the heating pad set to high) distracts from the sensation that my feet are dry (they're not).

Can't tell you guys how relaxed am I feeling..literally thought that I was the only one doing this in the whole world..let me tell you my story..so when I was a kid..I used to wet my hands more than my feet with saliva..and it was disgusting..ik..but as the time passed..I started doing it too much..and this time..I used to do it with my feet..and today I am writing this..not knowing that how will this disease be cured?? YES

!! I use to wet my feet now also..For the whole day..I roam around my bathroom and wash my feets..I literally mess my floor everyday..and everyone gets mad at me..my parents, relatives etc..and yk..my younger brother beats me for this..can you believe..how much pain I feel when he does this..it literally breaks my heart..and my parents say nothing to him..because they think that it's always my fault and I do this disgusting thing..but ik that I feel very helpless and uncomfortable whenever there is nothing to wet my feet..everyone scolds me for this ! But everytime water is not available

..soo I use lotion instead and oil also..but the thing is that oil smells very bad and it lefts stain on the bedsheet..and same thing happens with my bedsheet due to which my brother beats me a lottt..and he does not allow me to sleep or even sit on my bed 😭 Like there are infinite problems that I am facing and after reading some of your comments..I am feeling happy and very relaxed..thank god I am not the only one here and "I AM NOT WEIRD AT ALL" to all my relatives who say that I am weird 🥺..

my family hates me from doing it. I am wondering what solution I can use to cure this. I tried to stop doing it for a week but dang! it drives me crazy! I feel like My whole body is in need of too much water always thirsty. I even bought lotions just for my feet but cost too much. now I am using VCO inside my socks. it helps me wet my feet without having any bad odor. it sucks that whenever the moist dry, I feel like I need to refill.

My family hates me the most as my bed always wet. Bulok na nga ata. so almost every 2 months, i need to buy new bed haynaku

Antibacterial soap
by: Anonymous

I have the same condition. Overall i wet my feet intensively, i pour water in my shoes to keep my feet wet at all times, when i sleep i pour water on my feet and cover them with a blanket to keep them moist , once dried up i just repeat the process. I know doing this is bad and i have had many side effects from this "addiction" of mine. Here are a few tips to help if your feet start to hurt, cracked , smell or have flesh eating bacteria.

First wash your feet throughly with antibacterial soap then exfoliate them feet like crazy. After that i usually take a razor and shave off the dead skin on my feet ( similar to the way you would shave your face ). I hope you the best and if you can please try to quit.

It even came to a point where my older sister brought me to a albularyo ( shaman) said that i was buayahon in my bisaya dialect means ( a crocodiles like creature) she uses some
kind of sham like method of curing me but none of those things work tried to research in the net and found nothing! I also have trouble sleeping if i don't wet my feet making me sleep so late at night im soo stressed like everyone else but hoping someone will find aide or solution to this problem we are all facing 😭😭😭

by: From indonesia

Hi, I'm from Indonesia, and I stumbled across this thread because this is a topic in an Indonesian twitter account and many people experienced the same situation.

I see that there are many people in Philippines face the same situation. Is this a genetic trait?

Or is this because our ancestors of austronesian people are sailor so it linked with evolutionary condition? Lol JK.

Overall I think it's interesting that this topic is rarely studied.

I think it is SPD, I'm not fully sure.
by: Anonymousp

Hi everyone reading this,

I can't believe I'm not the only one with this condition! Here's my dark past (Story):

When I was younger (3), I started to wet my feet, I'm not sure why but I just liked the feeling of wetting mine. During that time I started wetting it with saliva. That brought me shame as I was punished for being gross, disgusting, etc. I was told to stop wetting my feet but I failed to.

Over time, things got worse because I started to wet my hands and feet with whatever I could find and started to fail all of my fingerprint checks due to dry hands. I would get taken into a room where I get asked about full name, date of birth to see whether it was me.

It is 10 years now, I have not found a method to stop wetting my feet, but for now wearing covered shoes help, otherwise I will still use water or saliva. Socks and lotion don't work on me because I would still wet them but yeah that's about it.

I would say Wet Feet Syndrome is SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) since I have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum when younger (I can now communicate like others so I am on the spectrum)

Whoever reading this, you are not alone. Have a nice day or night!

I can't believe it wasn't just me who has it.
by: :)

Hello everyone reading this. I am so happy that I am not the only one with this condition.

Here's my story (Or what I call it my dark past)
- When I was 3, I always would wet my feet with saliva. I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum somewhere around there. I don't know why I would do that but if it isn't wet I feel like the feeling isn't right.
- Looking back at it I feel every shameful because many of my classmates found it disgusting but I didn't really have a choice and I always get scolded for being disgusted. I didn't have friends as a result.

- As I got older, I found out that wearing covered shoes help a lot because it was the same feeling as wetting my feet and it works for me.

- But things only got worse as I got older, it got serious and I started to also wet my hands (I didn't wet it as much as my feet). Basically, I'll put my hands into my cup and watch my hands and legs which got me scolded by my family because I wet their floor a lot.

- That habit also took a toll on my fingerprints as I failed my immigration checks every single time due to dry hands. They would take me to an office where they asked me questions about what was my full name, date of birth etc since my fingerprint is faded.

- My family tried socks to sleep so that I stop wetting my feet but shortly after I am sent to bed, I would either wet my socks but most of the time I would take them off and throw it somewhere else.

- It is already over 10 years now, and sadly, I haven't found a proper way for me to stop wetting my feet. I still wet it using saliva and water. I don't know what to do but for now when I go to school and I wear covered shoes it works. I have not found any other method.

- To answer @Rome's question I would say it is Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), I am not entirely sure,

- Have a nice day/night. To everyone reading this, you are not alone :). Good luck!

I've been thinking neurological too!
by: Anonymous

Hi,

So I've been dealing with this my whole life, too, and I've posted on this forum before.

I regularly check to see if there are any updates that might help explain this condition.

I have a condition called "Small Fiber Peripheral Neuropathy" and it appears to be hereditary (my Mom has it). However, she does not suffer from the wet feet & hands ordeal. But I do feel like they're connected. I take gabapentin for the neuropathy & it does seem to help some w/my feet & hands. It's somewhat less intense, so I can even go to sleep at night w/out using a wet towel & lotion sometimes.

I noticed in some past posts that people w/this condition also have family members who have the same problem. I'm not sure if any of this will help anyone, but I thought I had to share.

Best to you all,

Heather

an interesting fact might be connected
by: Anonymous

Sometimes ppl with nerve damage from disorders like multiple sclerosis have sensation of wetness on areas of their body, even when it's dry. So the feeling of dry and wet is a nerve related issue. i really don't think it's psychological or OCD or just a habit.

I think maybe this condition is neurological. Maybe just forward this onto a bunch of neurology research departments..🤔 they might know what is happening. Or maybe they might even be interested in researching this. 🤷

Severe addiction to wet legs for 25 years.
by: Chikacha

Hi guys.

Same story guys, It is amazing how we are all not seeing each other but behaving alike, yet no hospital understands what this is.

What I am doing to cure myself is. I decided it was the same as drug addiction, so what I did is wash my shoes and everything, I started taking my bath with lots of body soap, wash wash my feet and all, and after that, no cream on my body. just good wash, towel dry and clothes on. Dry my hands when I wash anything and avoid all accidental drops to my legs.

keep a very clean and dry environment. After the first week or a few days, you'll stop caring about the creams and water. After 5 to 7 days I started applying the cream after showering but did not hunger for wetness, it was dying.

Put the cream away and don't move it. Go to the cream after the first week, use it, and walk away. Put the water away from your bedside (unless you absolutely need to drink at night).

Your skin should peel off to produce the most beautiful nails and skin you have ever seen.

You can do this!

Petroleum Jelly
by: Anonymous

When I was a kid I use every liquid I can find just to wet my feet. Because if I don't wet my feet and it's dry it's uncomfortable and feels itchy. I cannot even sleep if my feet is dry so I use lotion then putting socks on my feet, the problem is that lotion dry so fast. Then I discovered petroleum jelly it last long compared to lotion so I use it every. I mainly use Crocs Sandals instead of slippers when going outside. Gladly my feet doesn't smell even if it's wet.

I Also Have The Same Condition
by: Anonymous

Surprising how I am not alone.

I simply cannot believe that there are other individuals who also have this kind of habit of wetting their feet. In my experience, I also have this strong urge of wetting my feet to the point that I also use my saliva to wet it. I cannot stand having my hands and feet dry and rough. I also use lotion added with a little bit of water but it won't really be successful unless i rub my feet against something that will maintain the sweating or the wet feeling. I've been dealing with it since i was a child and I want to fix it since it is not that hygienic, making my toe nails dirty, and I always make a mess on our floor. I hope to discover a proper diagnosis and cure.

Also, I wrote this as I rub my wet feet against the wall. 🙁

My ways to solve
by: Anonymous

Hi, glad I'm not alone.

I had this issue since young, probably 5yo. I still remember how it started. Whether was hot that night, I slept in sweaty hand and leg, then I rub both leg and fall asleep. Since then i get addicted thid wet food problem. During younger days, I mostly use saliva to wet my feet else I had difficulty to sleep.

Through my 30 yr experience. I had few ways to reduce, but not cure this so called "addiction:

1. Use mosquito net, put it near to feet, rub in between when needed. It makes u feel the same relief to sleep without getting wet.
2. Wear sock to sleep (wet it if needed).
3. Normal days, wearing cover shoe should be ok without feeling uneasy.
4. Sleep in aircond room, cold air make u sleep easier.
5. During my early days without aircond, I created my own water by sleeping in sweat using blanket.

In short, I feel this is purely due to addiction since young. It is not a serious thing and basically it is harmless. Just like drug addict, Through determination and time, it can be overcome
(Note: I still wet my foot occasionally when sleeping)

Slippery Feet
by: Jeolmi Ph

Hello, I also love my feet being slippery. Not wet but slippery. I used to put lotion but lotion gets dry as time goes by and i noticed too much lotion darkens my feet. Now i use petroleum jelly under my feet and always using rubber slippers to not leave trails on the floor and make my feet slippery for a long time.

You know the feeling of being super thirsty, it makes me feel dehydrated and uncomfortable whenever i cant put petroleum jelly on my feet.

Problem is when i go outside i always got sands on my feet.

My Husband has same habit

Gosh! I am surprised that there are not few but many people are also having the same habit with my husband. My husband and I were married 14yrs ago. and I have seen him wet his feet before sleeping before marriage.

For me it was not a big deal until i became a mom and now my son also do the same wet his feet every 15 minutes which is annoying for me because i need to clean after their mess. when we sleep they always wet the bedsheet. they even have a dipper under the bed. until it gotten to a point that my husband’s feet became smelly. And I always told him about it he gets sensitive and felt insulted. i pity him, i don’t want to hurt him continuously by consistently reminding him. and i am worried about our son growing up with the same pattern. I really don't know what to do now.

so can any doctors or anyone tell us how we can have an alternate solution with this situation. can you please creat a a facebook group chat ? thank you and God bless everyone

Spiritual reasons for wetting the bottom of my feet.
by: Marvreen Gibson

Oh my God, I thought I was the only person on earth that is happen to. I even thought about inventing some kind of sacks that as lotion are some kind of liquid on the inside. I of to sleep with my feet on a towel and a spray bottle with water beside my bed. I go through lotion more the the ordinary person and I also realize I cannot use one with too much oil , it as to be more water base.

I’m going to be 40 years of age in two months and after years of wandering what this was, god as open my eye to the spiritual reason why i am going through this especially from i was a little girl and was able to learn who I am .

Our spirits are from the aquamarine community, yes we are water people . Our strength and powers comes from the water element. We most use it in everything we do to manifest our greatness. Do you realize if you spend too long without water on bottom of your feet you feel like your about to go crazy, lol it almost like fish out of water, so yes we are water people, that’s our element. We don’t only need it for Daily recreational purposes but also as our strength and renewal.

Growth begins at our feet , we are special people. Others may quench there Thirst by drinking water orally but us water people need to wet our feet to really feel quench.

I Feel Relieved
by: Anonymous

Wow!! I’m reading the comments and I feel this immense joy knowing I’m not the only one. I’m twenty and I see people older than me that do the same.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with wet feet. As a child, I used my saliva to moist my feet but as I grew, I knew I had to stop but I needed a replacement so I started using lotions; but not all lotions could satisfy this feeling. I only use certain lotions, especially ones with way less oil in them. I feel miserable when there’s no lotion or water. Wetting my feet makes me feel less creeped out.

I feel a bit relieved knowing I’m not the only one.

I’m glad, I’m not alone or a weirdo
by: Feet Towel

I am quite surprised there are plenty of us who almost have the same "habit" of wetting their feet. Mine started when I was just a toddler (so I was told by my mom), it started when I was on my potty training stage. I wasn’t wearing diaper, so apparently I peed on the bed and my feet just so happened to be resting on that part of the bed, that was how it all started. I always peed on the same spot every night and when I was wearing a diaper, I would cry and look for that "wet" part where I could put my feet. That was when my mom started to intentionally pour water on the bed where I could rest my feet because my pee was gross. Haha.

Now, I am already 28 years old and never stopped this habit. What I do is I put plenty of lotion on my feet then wear socks or wet a face towel and put it on my feet. It’s now, feet towel.

WOW
by: Anonymous

It kinda shocked me when i hear people doing the same thing !
-repeatedly pouring water on my feet.
-foot and palmar hyperhidrosis

Some other symptoms that i experience (may not be causation and correlation) :
-Bad water retention, I drink plenty of water but always feel thirsty
-overactive bladder
-My body temperature is always on the high side, 37.0 - 37.5, & occasionally in fever range (>37.5) but feel "normal".
-stressed easily

Seeing these and now knowing how common it is, I might relate it to having PICA (eg :like how the body lacks iron and hence crave for soil/dirt), seemingly illogical but scientifically proven.

Related to sensitivity or anxiety?
by: Anonymous

I've noticed that most comments come from tropical countries. I also have this form of compulsion to moisturise my hands and feet. It started as a child around 3 or 4, I would repeatedly wet my feet because I can't stand it being dry. Then I discovered lotion or anything with the same consistency.

I am 39 now and I still have no idea what this condition really is. I have hyperhidrosis too which I think is a response to my anxiety. I shudder mildly too as if I'm cold while talking about something which makes me excited. I can't wear flip flops because my feet would get really wet and slippery from sweat. I am from the Philippines but never met anyone as obsessed with lotion as I am. Though I know many who use kulambo (mosquito net) to rub on their feet to give them the same comfort I get from lotion.

Can anyone correlate this to being a sensitive person like being an artist or someone with anxiety disorder? Anyway, I don't really find it a problem now as long as I have my lotion with me all the time.

Wet feet syndrome
by: Avril

I am really surprised that I am actually not alone in this kind of situation. I can still remember how I started to have this obsession with keeping my feet wet. Back when I was a kid, I caught my older brother pouring out some cooking oil on the floor then stepped on it, leaning his arms over the edge of the table while playing with his feet.

Since then, I started using water instead of oil and just pour it into wherever my feet are resting; on the couch, floor, or during bedtime. I just couldn't stop myself from doing it over and over again until my whole family eventually noticed this and we argue every time.

I am 23 years old now and I just tried to search Google for what kind of disorder this is, so I found this thread and just can't believe that I actually am not the only one suffering. Yes, I am still keeping my feet wet until now. It's weird that my feet smells normal and I often think that maybe I'm a half-mermaid mysekf. hehe!

Wet Feet Syndrome/Disorder??
by: Anonymous

It is such a relief to know that I am not the only one suffering with this kind of disorder, syndrome or something??As far as I can remember I have this habit of putting saliva on my feet just to keep it wet. It makes me really uncomfortable not to do it most especially before going to sleep. It is also been a source of embarrassment for me growing up.

But when I am on my teenage years I've discover that lotion would somewhat ease the urge and soothe my feet. There are times that I can control it but it keeps on coming back most likely when I am stressed.

Been searching the net on what specific disorder or syndrome this might be.And honestly, growing up I thought I am the only one having this kind of habit and that built the idea that I am the weirdest person on earth. But when I met one of my cousins in my father side, I noticed that she also have this type of wet foot syndrome as the majority would call this given that she's already married and has kids.

I am really curious if this is hereditary?? I hope that someone on medical field might be interested to do a research about this, it will be a great help for all of us.But somehow I already accepted and live with this habit. Also I been visiting this website but only this time that I have the confidence to share my story. Keep safe everyone, wishing you all good health and peace of mind.

Love,

Wet Feet Syndrome as a kid
by: Anonymous

As a child, my relatives used to tease me that I'm like a frog because I always wet my feet and I always suffered from Athlete's foot which made my feet smell most of the time. Just like you, I also used my saliva and lotion to keep it wet because I like the satisfaction and something's wrong when it is dry. Another thing I observed at night is that I get the same satisfaction when I rub my feet in a mosquito net specifically the nylon mosquito net. Now that I am 19, I can't sleep without a mosquito net because it makes my feet sweat which gives me same feeling when I wet my feet.

Has anyone had any medical problems from this habit?
by: Anonymous

My name is A.C., I'm a 27-year-old male and for as long as I can remember, I've suffered the irresistible urge to keep my feet wet. I was born in the Philippines, but moved to Canada before I turned 1-years-old. Lotion and Vaseline has never worked for me; as someone pointed out, it just feels like dry skin with lotion on top. As a result of this habit, I've dealt with smelly feet for almost as long as I can imagine, and it has always been a source of extreme embarrassment for myself.

I've also noticed that I have hyperhidrosis and my hands have always gotten excessively sweaty for no reason. I also deal with regular daily anxiety and stress. Is it possible that these issues are related? Maybe an overactive adrenal gland which has caused me to sweat excessively and stress, which may have lead to me being accustomed to and liking the sensation of wet feet?

The first issue I started out with was Athlete's Foot. Since I've grown up with this problem, I've commonly had smelly feet which has always been a large source of embarrassment for me. However, I noticed quickly in high school and afterwards that when my feet were not wet, it would become painful to walk.

Fast forward to now, and I am finding that if my feet have dried up since the last time I've dampened them, which has gotten to the point of maybe multiple times an hour, they almost immediately start to crack and blister, and it becomes immediately painful to walk. It feels like walking on literal shards of glass, slicing your feet.

Generally if I am able to wet my feet soon enough, it's almost like the cuts and the cracks disappear and I'm no longer able to feel them. On the other hand, if I am not able to and my feet completely dry out, I get cracks and blisters all over my whole feet and then it becomes near impossible to walk. The only remedy I have found is to wet them and allow them to soften again. I've looked online and fear that I may have trench foot, which takes up to 6 months to fully heal and may require amputation and debridement of skin. I cannot even imagine that process and am horrified at the idea. However, my feet have also looked similar to those photos for almost more than 10 years, and I have not lost any sensation in my feet. I can walk, run, and hike perfectly normal without any pain - so long as my feet are moistened.

So for now, it seems that continuing this habit is more beneficial if I want to actually function. The moment I stop wetting my feet, is the day that I literally will not be able to walk.

I'm writing this hoping that a medical professional can help.

OCD with lotion at night
by: Claire

I put lotion on my feet at least 10-15 times during the night. I never used saliva or water… but I have been putting lotion on my feet for at least the last 10 years to this extent.

I also think it’s enjoyment of my feet feeling wet which is how I found this forum. Trying to figure out what it is that makes me need to do this. If I am out of lotion I have a very hard time sleeping with dry feet.

by: Anonymous

Greeting from Malaysia. It feels good that finally I found out that I'm not the only one who have this issue. Since I was a kid I've been using saliva to wet my feet almost all the time whenever I feel my feet is dry. Sometimes I went to the bathroom every 10 minutes to wet my feet.

But now I'm 34 years old and married with 1 daughter, I'm only using Vaseline lotion. It would be great if we could create some facebook group of something just to share our experiences and knowledge about this addiction.

I think its RLS
by: Anonymous

I am currently 21 and I have had this problem as long as I can remember. I googled about this a lot but couldnt find much information. I have noticed that if you keep something warm on your feet like a hot water bag, it helps. Mostly because the heat makes the feet moist with sweat probably. So I always sleep with lotion on my feet and put hot water bag on it.

Recently, I read about RLS abbreviation for Resting foot syndrome and most of my symptoms are linked to that. It doesnt say that RLS can be soothed by wetting the feet, but as far as I know the closest I have ever related this experience is to RLS.

Also I noticed my symptoms worsen a day or two before period or during long standing hours. Those days neither lotion works nor the hot water bag. I just suffer most of those nights.

Frankincense Oil - The Best Relief I Have Found
by: Anonymous

I am 25 and have also been suffering for this for several years now. In the beginning I would use saliva in desperation to soothe it, then I would use lotion (except--it only helped for 15 minutes or so before needing to reapply).

Finally, a few years ago, I was testing various essential oils and, out of all of them, Frankincense gave me relief that lasted through the night. I mix 2-4 drops of Frankincense essential oil with lotion and it completely relieves my feet and allows me to sleep.

I am becoming increasingly more convinced that this is some variation of a nerve disorder. I work night shift at a hospital as a nurse and yesterday, I was surprised while speaking with an elderly patient--he told me that he was having trouble sleeping because he has neuropathy in his feet and forgot to bring his Frankincense oil to the hospital that he uses at hone every night--he said, "I know it sounds crazy, but it's the only thing I've found to bring relief." I couldn't believe that I found someone else who knew about this also!

Anyway, I just thought I would share these insights.. Hopefully someone will benefit from it and we can someday understand what causes this.

I have an answer
by: Anonymous

Hi everyone.

I first commented on here in 2015 and had linked any further responses to my email, so I have been reading everyones comments for years.

As we can see, this is a sensory-processing issue.

Perhaps you experience this in other ways?
Like if you're tired, do slight sounds sound grating to you? Just the sound of someone breathing or a clock is enough to make you feel crazy?

Are you sensitive to touch? Maybe you don't like when someone touches you repeatedly in one spot because it almost begins to feel like sandpaper?

These are things I experience, along with the wet-feet issue (although I haven't suffered this ailment in years).

Either way... it relates to sensory processing.
This can be a seperate thing, but it is also related to autism. So if you have every felt a bit out of place socially as well.. this might be something to look into.

In the end we are not alone! and the problem we have relates to sensory processing.

Hope everyone is safe in these times. Glad there is some resolve for this issue.

Seemingly natural but good to know other people do this as well.
by: Anonymous

I share the same similarities with the others here, been reading and checking on this page for quite some time now and hopefully we get a better explanation of why we may have these tendencies.

Though it seems close to OCD for some, to me it seems just natural. When outside I also prefer closed shoes rather than slippers, I just generally don't like the feeling of my feet drying up or the sensation of random grit from the dirt. This is why I am usually fine outdoors.

At home is a different story, I usually just like to 'moisturize' my hands, feet, and face with just water. I put a little water on one hand, let it drop to the feet as I spread the water to coat the other hand, rub my feet to do the same while rubbing my face as well.

Moisturizer is another thing that I always have beside me when I am sitting at home in front of my pc for both work and play. I also put moisturizer on my feet while massaging them, its always just water or moisturizer.

At night I always have heavy pillow placed on my feet to keep them warm, before going to bed I also wet my feet with water.

I am not sure if its the same with everyone else but as a kid, if I slept with the AC on (plus I didn't use pillows on my feet or even use blankets back then) - when I wake up my feet feel cold to the touch, this was to the point that when bathing - as I mix in some boiling water from the pot to the tub and test the mixture for that warm temperature - whilst it was hot to the touch it felt like almost nothing on my then cold feet.

As of writing this I've put lotion once, and sprayed some water over two times on my feet.

Can someone forward this site to a neurologist?
by: Anonymous

I periodically visit this site to see if someone may have an answer. Unfortunately nobody has found any...I think this problem may be a nerve disorder of some kind(?)

A common trait seems to be that it starts early in life. Most people have experienced this since childhood. It must be some sort of genetic condition that may effect other areas of health or functioning(?) Someone out there in the medical community must be interested in this as it may lead to knowledge that could benefit other more serious conditions in a general sense.

If anyone knows anyone that may be involved in any area of medicine that may be related to this type of condition, please forward this site...Perhaps it may trigger interest and further investigation and we may know the answer to this mysterious condition.

I’m 17 now but I still have the urge to wet my feet with something. I’ve replaced it with lotions and any kind of things that I can rub my feet instead of using saliva. I really thought I was the only one who does that but thank god I'm not. I always felt bad when I did that as a child. I still do because when some of my relatives bring that up again to mock me in a conversation I just wanna crawl beneath the frigging floor itself.

I have been doing it for so long it has affected my palms and feet, I can't even be in romantic relationships or even platonic ones cause I'm scared of their reactions when they find out.

I don't even like leaving the house cause I hate how my palms and feet feel when I'm outside. If I have to sleep over at someone else's house I always make sure I bring socks along. I'm sure my friends and everyone else think I am weird by now.
Just decided to Google why I'm like this and I found this, y'all are so awesome. Just knowing I am not the only one out there going through this surely makes me feel better.

Thank you so much

Hi, I also have the same problem. I can't sleep properly without having my feet wet. I always put lotion and if there's no more lotion, I use a spray that has water in it. If I may ask, is this a serious problem? Is it normal? Why does this happen to us?Does this have something to do with our mental health? Please tell me how to solve this problem. T_T

Hi Im a 20 year old. And I have this kind of problem back when I was 6 years old. I hate the feeling of dryness on my foot where it feels like Im walking in high-noon desert. When I was a child I always had this wet towel covered in my feet just to help me ease to sleep right away. My parents were mad because I also get wet the bed because of the wet towel. Until they let me do my thing.. Right now I think this kind of problem got worse because the towel don't work for me anymore.. Now I just wet the part of my bed where will my feet will lay.. By reading this article Im happy in a weird way that Im bot the only one having this problem..

I've been dealing with this all my life
by: Anonymous

I'm kind of relieved to see I'm not the only one with this problem and I feel For you all. For as long as I can remember, I've had the intense pathological need to avoid the sensation of my hands or feet feeling dry. It's mainly the palms of my hands or soles of my feet. It mostly bothers me at night.

When I was young, I would use Vaseline or anything else that was available, but if there wasn't anything, saliva would have to do. Then I learned that I just had to have lotion around all of the time, especially if I was at someone else's house. Even though I would frequently wake up and have to reapply lotion at night, it worked for a while. But it has gradually gotten worse over the years where lotion with socks doesn't work and I really struggle trying to find the right kind of lotion- which changes all the time. I most recently have to have a wet washcloth on my nightstand and lotion, of course, so I can wet my feet AND apply lotion. This too is no longer enough.

I can't seem to get to sleep fast enough before the lotion dries and I wake up multiple times at night having to reapply. It's truly driving me crazy at this point and I think I'm going to go see a hypnotist or something!

Sorry for the long, drawn out story, but I'm 46 and I've never known of anyone else having this problem, so it's just so nice to be able to find other people who can relate. Thanks!

Hello

I have the same problem, lotion works for me as well, but if I don't have it on hand, I'll get up and wet my socks and put them on while wet... Best feeling ever. I haven't told my husband what's going on with me so I'm kind of a shame when we are both up and the bed is wet.

I found something that works
by: Lisa

After almost 45 years of searching I have found something that works for me and my feet. Not only did I have the need to keep my feet moist since the age of 4 But for the last few years I have also had my feet feeling hot and painful when I’m in bed causing me to not be able to sleep.

To solve the moisture problem I have found a lotion that actually soaks into the skin quickly and has a special formulation to soak in deeper then any other lotion which causes longer lasting results. To battle the issue of painful, hot feeling there is a additional product I get from the same online manufacturer. It is a essential oil in a roll on container which makes it soo easy to apply. Are you open minded to purchasing direct from a manufacturer? Just imagine being able to go a full day or more without needing to wet your feet.

The way I see it you have three choices, 1) you can continue as you are doing, re-wetting your feet several times a day 2) keep hoping for a solution or that the feeling will go away or 3) contact me for the information and try this product which has a 100% money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with it. Pm me on Facebook for more info. The product is US based and available to ship to 19 countries currently. I want to help you Feel the relief I’ve received by connecting you with the manufacturer. https://www.facebook.com/lbreid1

by: Anonymous

I'm 51 now and I still want my feet wet, it started when I was still young and I thought there is something wrong with me, I go to the bathroom and wet my feet, and back again when it dries, I have tried saliva too, but it stinks, one time my mother saw me wetting my hands with saliva she got very mad and she threaten to chopped my hands off. So I always try to hide it. And a cousin of mine, has the same problem, actually 2 of my cousin both from my father side, and she was the one that suggested lotion. I have tried lotion and I never used my saliva again which is great because saliva stinks when it dries. But now I am using Vaseline petroleum jelly,, for me it is much better than lotion, it stays longer on my feet. Glad to have found this page and knowing that someone out there is like me.

Whao! I must say it's been kind of fun reading all these comments. I can absolutely relate with almost all these experiences!

I'm from Nigeria (so at least it isn't endemic in just one particular area!) and I also have this disorder. I think it's in the SPD category, i.e. we're just overly sensitive.

First, I try not to think of myself as weird cos I didn't make myself this way! It's just that it's been hard being around people who just can't understand you!

Anyways, I just try to reduce the wetting cos I think in the long run, it would really make your feet vulnerable to fungal infections.

I'm glad that I found this website where I can share my personal experience with people that can relate. When I was a kid, I'd run in the middle of the night to the bathroom just to pour water on my feet (we had no lotion). I hate and get anxious when my feet and hands are so dry. I even put a sock on after putting a lotion just to keep my feet moisturized. I also always sleep with my lotion and it feels damn good.

So Glad I’m Not The Only One
by: Anonymous

So this isn’t an everyday thing for me, but it happens a lot, definitely during warmer times of the year and it’s been going on since I was a kid (I’m 30 now). I’ve never used saliva, just thick lotion, like body butter and literally have to slab it on my hands and feet. If I don’t fall asleep before it soaks in I have to do it again. Also, sometimes I wake up and have to re-apply. Not sure what it’s all about, just always assumed it was allergies or something along those lines.

by: Anonymous

I literally cannot sleep if my feet or hands are dry. If I’m sleeping at a friends house and don’t have lotion with me I HAVE to spit on my hands otherwise I can’t sleep. It’s terrible especially when you’re really tired and are already in bed about to fall asleep and then you realize your feet are super dry and you have to get up to put lotion on them. Another terrible thing about this is that once I put the lotion on, I can’t get out of bed otherwise my feet will get dirty and bring crumbs onto the bed which I also hate.

Wet feet
by: Anonymous

Wow!!! I had to put lotion on my feet ever since childhood. I guess I was lucky I didn’t get into licking and the lotion would only be at home bare footed. Now I feel like certain brands are too waxy and I may have developed fungus or something because it feels different like water will work (cooling) for only a minute, one lotion won’t, in socks is better, but having my feet sweat a little is better.

I also have anxiety (all my life), I suffer from hyperhydrosis (extreme sweating feet and hands). When I read "SPD" it encompasses another thing I have, mysophonia (fight it flight reactions to certain noises).

What I Do
by: Anonymous

I personally use Vaseline cocoa butter lotion. I can’t use straight Vaseline, it’s too greasy for my liking. At night, I prefer to put a good amount (more than usual) on my feet and put socks on. It helps to keep them moisturized throughout the night.

I previously commented on here about a year ago, I’m still not sure what it is, but it’s been a lifelong issue.

I have an issue with circulation and anxiety. I think those two combined contribute to this, as I am almost always sweating (hands and feet), and when I’m not I absolutely need to put lotion on.

Does anyone here suffer from anxiety/circulation issues?

And then I met lotion. (I also tried petroleum jelly, but lotion is still the best.) And my life started to change.

'til now, I wake up during my sleep just to put some lotion on my feet.

Wow, all my life I thought I was the only 1, I've had this issue since childhood i always have to wet my feet before i can go to bed and the moment it dries up i get uncomfortable when I'm awake that is.

I'm always pouring water on my feet before i can really get comfortable, it even made me wonder how people can feel comfortable with their feet dry throughout. The condition really bothers my family and even friends back in boarding school but i just didn't know how to stop it for a longer period of time, eventually I end up giving in and wetting my feet again, I've always hoped for a day that I'll find a permanent solution to this condition.

OMG I'm not the only one. Many people around me think I'm such weirdo because of this. My mom too has this kind of problem. I wonder if this genetic or something.

It's really annoying to have this kinda addiction, I even called this problem addiction lol.

I literally can't sleep before I put lotion to my hand and my feet, even sometimes I woke up 2-4 times in the middle of the night found that my hand and feet were dry, and I had to put lotion to sleep again. And sometimes my hands and feet are so sweaty when I was in the middle of doing something, I think that's the most annoying of this problem.

I used to use saliva (I know it's so gross lol) and water too when I was children, but now I use lotion because it's more comfortable than water and saliva of course lol. I don't know exactly when was the first time this started. But I'm sure it was probably in 2th or 3th grade. Now, I'm 17 and still have this problem. Damn it, I didn't realize that I've been doing this for more than 10 years.

I'm really glad that I found this forum discussion lol, I just bored and search this. AND VOILA!! FOUND IT. I've never thought many people are like me too.

I also have this strange addiction to always want to wet my feet. I use saliva or pee just to make my feet wet. During my childhood, I was caught by my aunt wetting my feet using my pee while I was eating. I was using my right hand to eat and left hand to wet my feet with my pee. I was so embarrased I didnt leave my room and doesnt want to go to school the next day.

As I get older, I make sure that I stock up on lotion or petroleum jelly. I always prefer lotion specifically the jergens brand because it lasts longer. I am now 35 and still have this strange addiction to always want to make my feet wet.

Another #me to movement
by: Reid

As a child I remember putting saliva on my feet at night so I could sleep as my feet felt to dry. Before putting socks on to go to school my mom would put lotion on my feet as I complained that my feet felt dry and I could not wear my socks.

To this day, most nights I have to put lotion on my feet or I can not sleep. Sometimes I get up 2-3 times a night to reapply the lotion. If my feet are dry when in bed, its like it initiates restless leg syndrome. Some lotions work longer then others, some soak in very fast while others don’t seem to do anything. Actually, I often have to lotion my feet, legs (up to my knees), hands and arms before bed.

I will sometime cover myself in baby lotion after a shower, but before drying myself off. This helps to moisturizer the body. This seems to help with the issue for a day or two, except for the feet at night.

I know I do not drink enough water and was told this could be part of the problem.

My entire life to this day. As child used slept in socks and wet in water before got in bed not until I got married did I adjust to using lotion. I love you all and we are special. I have rare blood, I am allergic to everything, and had spontaneous combustion where my skin will swell and heat up. It is just now one of my darling children who wanted to know and researched and found you guys. God Bless you all. We are amazing.

Me too my parents and my aunt always talk about how I always wash my feet even though it was not dirty and everytime they ask me about it I can't answer because I don't know what to say. I always feel ashamed when they see me washing or soaking my feet. This started when I was 7 and I always got scolded because of this and my aunt teases me that I was "pinaglihi" to frogs.

Glad I wasn't the only one when I saw this thread, Is this a disorder? I really would like to know
by: NoobMaster69

It'll all began when I was like 4-5 years old, I always thought I'm the only one who keeps doing this thing (until this day)

I felt ashamed at myself for doing this but it feels comfy as hell when I put wet stuff on my feet, I just can't help it. And If I dont put any wet stuff at my feet, I just can't sleep or I really feel uncomfortable and annoyed as hell.. I did some research through google, because I feel like it may be a sign of disorder or might be a type of Illness that's why I'm kinda scared for myself but I just can't find any answers!! Is it a rare disorder or something? (You can call me being paranoid, but the fact that I can't find any answers to this makes me uncomfortable)

8 years old daughter
by: Anonymous

Hi. I truly hope someone would read this and let us know what works best or if they know what type of issue this is. My 8 years old daughter has been having this problem for a year now. She says her feet (and palms) are so uncomfortable she has to spit in it to keep it wet. It keeps her awake at night and sometimes when I visit her school for classroom help, i would catch her spitting in hands to keep it wet. I am trying to convince her to use lotion but at this point, she refuse because she does not like the feel of lotion. Hopefully I’ll work her towards it.

I will keep coming back to this site in hope of answers. Thank you for starting this thread!

OMG! Me too!
by: Anonymous

Oh wow! I’m overwhelmed by the number of people who also have this weird "habit" (and here I thot I was the only one HAHAHA) Kidding aside, mine started when I was toddler. I peed on my bed and when I went back to sleep my feet was on that wet part where I peed (this is according to my mom). According to her also, I would always do this cycle, pee, put my feet on the wet part so what my mom did was to deliberately soak my bedding in the foot part so I wouldn’t have the need to pee on it.

When I got older (and up until now), I wet a cloth (an old garment or piece of cloth) and put it on my feet, I call it "mawasa"- in our native language which is Maguindanaon, MAWASA means BASA. I tried using lotion then socks but it’s not satisfying and comforting compared to the wet cloth. Well, I just hope there’s some kind kf scrientific explanation for this weirdness.

I Do the Same Too
by: Nicole

I am 19 and had ALWAYS been addicted to my feet being wet, I remember as a kid I did not discover the comfort lotion gives yet so what I do, if outdoors is wet my feet with water (one time I remember using mouthwash because for some reason I could not get water and it's the only liquid accessible, and I do not remember why lol) and if indoors especially when I'm about to sleep I'll have something like a pillow for example where I can put my feet on and rub against, it's usually things with very smooth and silky texture. And till now I am 19 I still do the same although more on wetting my feet than putting on lotion, the times I go to the bathroom every ten minutes to wet my feet is uncountable.

I am worried that it might lead to serious condition to my feet or any illness of some kind..

by: Anonymous

I'm amazed at how many people have this. I don't know when this started for me, as I don't have a lot of memories from my childhood, but I've been excessively lotioning my feet for as long as I remember. I'm currently watching my aunt's house, and panicked when I realized I forgot my lotion. She had some, so I took the risk of using hers before bed.

It's currently 4 in the morning and this is the 6th-10th time I've been awake tonight because the lotion dries too quickly. I just can't stand it feeling like sandpaper between my big and second toes.

But I'm so happy I found this thread.

I used to have this habit or disorder when I was younger but I'm glad that I manage to overcome and change this through overthinking about it and practice. I know how shameful it is especially when you're in public or with your friends and you felt the need to wet your feet with anything to ease your uneasiness.

But up to this day I want to know what causes it or any explanation about this issue. I guess no related study about this topic has ever made yet.

Good luck to everyone who are suffering with this habit I hope just like me you would help yourself to lose this habit.

OCD? - Sensory Issue
by: SP - Canada

I too have this ‘condition’, and have my entire life.

I am 23 years old, and since I can remember I’ve always had what I thought or subsequently classified as hypohydrosis. The only reason I came to that conclusion was because of the sense of relief I got after masking my hands and feet with lotion - profuse sweating. I’m assuming this is because the clogging of my pores.

I can remember at age three consistently licking my hands (gross, I know!) just to mask this terribly irritating feeling. I do not have eczema. It’s like crawling beneath my skin, which although not always visible, can sometimes be seen as my hands ‘wrinkle’, I mean I am 23 years old, and even at a very young age in prior years I can see the wrinkling, as if I was 78.

It got to the point that my mom was so tired of seeing me lick my hands that by the age of 7 she started buying me lotions - crappy ones at that - that actually made it worse. I’ve gone so far as washing dishes and splashing water on the floor just to soothe my feet, which to me felt like the dessert sand, but I’m sure we’re perfectly average.

I have immense amounts of lotions in my home, and on my person at all times. I’ve had many bad experiences being at friends houses or new environments and not having my lotions. It has and continues to cause me severe mental agitation if I do not have it.

I HAVE to sleep with socks on, and NEED to lotion my hands and feet multiple times before I go to bed so I am at ease. I’ve always felt very alone in this, but knew someone else out there has to have this. The reason I try to lear myself away from believing it’s OCD, is because well, my 3 year old daughter has the exact same issue, point by point. I have not at any point made it known to her that this is an issue I have, as I do not slather my extremities in lotion in her presence nor have I expressed disdain in not having my lotion with me with her in my proximity. She just coincidentally has the exact same issue.

I was certainly scrutinized as a child by my mom and siblings which I do not want her to experience; so I’ve taught her that instead of licking her hands and rubbing them on her feet, she can use some lotion - as licking your hands is for obvious reasons very unsanitary. It is just an indescribable sensation when my skin is ‘dry’, and my body has developed the "ability" to make my main extremities, being my hands and feet, sweat on command - which is unfortunately an ability I am known for in my social circle (lol).

I, too, get great satisfaction when touching condensation on bottles etc, as well as picking up snow (Canadian, eh?). It is a necessity after washing dishes, showering or washing my hands that I lotion. I also have a sensitivity to certain materials I.e. faux fur blankets, fleece and often static prone materials/objects. It is quite easy to, at this point in my life, chalk this up to OCD, but I hate to think my child is somehow suffering from the same and being unable to offer a constructive alternative to religiously lotioning her hands and feet. It’s just a terrible skin crawling feeling that is only relieved by aggressively moisturizing.

The only advice I can offer is to stick to lotions with vitamin e, this has more of an effect for me than any other, and to avoid thin watery lotions that are heavily scented. You’ll smell great! But you’ll be lotioning yourself again in the next 5 minutes. I’ve accepted that this is just me, and it’s better than needing to flick your lights on and off 28.7 times to ensure they’re working. No offence intended there.. I still have OCD (I think?!).

All the very best to everyone in the same boat here, if you can offer me any advice - it’s always accepted.

by: Kayleen

Seriously I have struggled with this for my whole life (28 years) and finally am trying to find some answers because it’s gotten so bad that I literally cant sleep. Lotion doesn’t work for me because my skin still feels weirdly dry under the lotion.

The only suggestion I have is that I’ve been able to sleep better if I make sure that I’m touching skin before I sleep. Ex wrapping my arms around my waist with my hands touching my skin, sometimes putting on short pants so I can hook my hands around my knees/thighs, or in a pinch if I curl them up into fists I can usually make it comfortable enough to sleep. My feet I just try to make them as close together as possible.

Have any of you been diagnosed with autoimmune diseases? My doctors suspect that a lot of the things I’m struggling with might come from that, and I wonder if this might just be another symptom of some sort?

OMG ME TOO!

I used to use saliva as well. (kinda gross) I found that lotions work well.

I really hate wearing socks and shoes though ive hated it since I was a baby. I need to put lotion on my feet before wearing socks! Shoes and socks don't work for me because sometimes my feet get really hot inside and it feels like an oven then u just wanna scream and chuck them off.

Sometimes I cant use a blanket to cover my feet but then it gets dry and super uncomfortable and I can't sleep. Some days are worse than others.

Am I the only one who gets really frustrated or upset (I get really mad at random everyday things) when my feet are not the wetness or condition I need them to me?

My parents used to bring me to see doctors when I was little but they couldn't find anything wrong. Ive learned to live with it now but sometimes its so hard.

I thought I was the only one! Why aren't there more sites and information about this?but I'm so glad that I'm not the only one.

THIS IS THE ONLY PAGE I'VE EVER FOUND ABOUT THIS
I thought I was alone in this. I've always hated my feet dry it makes me soooo uncomfortable. My hands as well too. I even tend to get super frustrated when they're not the way I want them to be.

Am I the only one who hates socks? I have to put on lotion before wearing socks and sometimes when my feet are dry in the sock I just wanna chuck them off. I've always hated to wear socks and shoes since I was a baby. Another reason I hate to wear socks and shoes is cause my feet sometimes gets really hot and it feels like an oven inside and I can feel the heat radiating inside. Ugh.

I can't even sleep sometimes because of this. Some days it's really bad some days it doesn't bother me as much.

My parents thought I had a fungal growth or something that causes all this. They took me to see doctors when I was little but they couldn't figure out the reason either. Now I just learn to live with it. I need to bring lotion almost everywhere I go! My family is used to it now. My friends have no idea.

We should definitely create a group on some social media or smt to help each other! My ig is nanas_the_pineapple 😊😁 hmu

Hi, im not surprised that my niece is not alone in this kind of weird and alarming syndrome since she adopted it in our neigbors.

My niece is 7 years old and she likes to wet her feet so much like all the time, sometimes she runs into our bathroom to wet her feet and she mostly wet her feet outside since she likes playing outside which scares me because of Leptospirosis.

Hope someone will read this comment and send some advice to me but. For the meantime I'll use lotion or petroleum jelly to resolve this problem, thanks in advance.

Petroleum Jelly has helped me
by: i_am_a_filipino

First of all I am surprised that I am not alone on this problem.

I always have this habit of wetting my feet because I am NOT comfortable if they are dry!!!

I have been scolded by my relatives and parents for wetting my feet as a child maybe because I keep doing it over and over and that it just disturbs them seeing me do it over and over.

As a child, and even as an adult, I would prefer wearing shoes because it helps my feet feel not dry instead of using slippers. I can't go to bed without wetting my feet first. When I was a kid, I would love to put on my feet to my mom/dad or sibling's legs just so I feel a little moisturized. It's very hard to sleep with the feet being dry! There were times when I wear socks when sleeping or enclosing my feet with plastic bags. As most of you, I also used saliva just to wet my feet as a kid.

A relative told me to use PETROLEUM JELLY when I was growing up and since then I have used it. It makes me feel comfortable. With this I have lessened wetting my feet. My slippers are always moisturized with Petroleum Jelly.

I am over 30 years old now and was able to live with it, I felt so sad that I had suffered too much on this as a child and still getting this issue perhaps for the rest of my life.

I don't really know what is the medical term for this issue and what are the treatment and if it can totally get rid of the problem. It seems to me that is has something to do with nerves (sensory). Feeling dry feet is very very uncomfortable, I often had crack feet when I was a child.

I hope that you can really provide what the medical term is for this issue and how to treat it.

Please let me know if there are other forums discussing about this syndrome as well.

Email me at ericswingstx@yahoo.com and we can discuss about this as well.

Thanks,
Eric

heat regulation ?
by: Anonymous

Doctors usually dont research rare non life threatening conditions like this. It's just not profitable enough for them to do so. Which means it is highly likely that answers to this annoying condition will ever be provided.

Just a wild guess but i think it's something to do with thermoregulation in the body (especially the feet). Since technically having "wet feet" is the same as having sweaty feet and humans sweat to regulate heat/cool down.
Must be a nerve thing. Just a guess.

I'm not alone?!
by: Anonymous

I always thought I was the only person who did this. Sometimes I have to get up in the middle of the night and run water over my feet in the sink or shower. I can't fall asleep when my feet are too dry, it just drives me crazy. A few times I've even soaked a pair of socks and slept in them, or kept a damp towel by my feet. Anyway, it's good to know I'm not alone - I never really questioned it until now because I've been doing ot forever.

I am now 56 years old and like all of you I like my feet wet all the time...moist at least. These days I use lotion but as others mentioned, not just any lotion will do. I am happy with my feet wet, others may find it odd but I don't see it as a problem.

Wet towel every Night.
by: Emmeyn Coson

I have the same feeling and situation.. When I was a child. I used to get a wet towel every night. I didnt think that this is a syndrome or a Disorder.. It makes me feel relaxed and makes me sleep, up to now that im 25yrd old im doing it. Haha! I can't stop this.. it makes me feel relieved. Is their any treatment for this? Sometimes I feel shy or not comfortable when I got to sleep. Because my bed sheet is getting wet. Same with my husband he is not comfortable about it..

It is severe in childhood but it is less tempting

All of us suffer from this at from our childhood
It is hereditary, I believe most of us feel anxious most of the time
I think we all like to live in cold place with soft and touchy sweater.

It looks like Sensors process disorder....

I have had the same thing!!
by: John

First of all, OH MY GOD I FINALLY FOUND OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE THIS SYMPTOM/DISORDER/PHOBIA.

I have had this my whole life. If my feet/hands aren't wet for a while I will have a panic attack and desperately search for water. I have resorted to using saliva. I am 14 and I am DESPERATE. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN ANSWER? If so, please inform me because this is so hard to live with. Thankfully, when wearing socks and shoes I don't get this feeling, even though I do have to wet my feet right after putting socks on.

by: Anonymous

Thank God! I really thought I was the only one in the world experiencing this kind of thing! Is it a syndrome? Can someone give an explanation to this??? When I was young I use to wet my bed with water bcoz I feel comfortable to it! Until now I am still doing this thing, I tried lotion bt it kinds feels weird because not all lotions are the same, bt water really is the best! My mom use to scold me and tell me that I am a mermaid and I was like "yeah must be" and my skin in my feet area is like an old woman skin, it's not soft and nice to look at because of too much water I think.

Finally!!
by: SouthernerPH

I'm from Zanorte, PH. Since childhood I can't sleep well without wetting my feet. I constantly wet them from time to time. Though now, the frequency of wetting decreased but I still keep on wetting my feet before I go to sleep. I use Petroleum jelly cause it lasts longer than lotions.

The problem now is that my hands sweat a lot! It sweated even more the older I get. I always keep a hanky or facetowel around and I really get embarrassed during mass or holding someone's hands because of it. anyone knows a solution for sweaty hands??

I also have this kind of thing, when I was a kid until now. In medical term, if you have excessive sweaty hands or feet, it is called hyperhidrosis. But, this thing that you guys been talking about I also have it, not just me but also my brother and sister, we always have that thing to go to the bathroom or somewhere where we could wet our feet, and our mom with be mad at us because we always wet the floor.

This is the first forum I have ever found talking about it. All I can say is you learn to live with it. I am 28 now and find lots of moisturiser helps.

My son has the same but with his hands
by: a mother desperate for her son

My nearly 15 year old has the same disorder, we have been to countless doctors and as a mother it breaks my heart. He has to constantly wet his hands. I have tried every lotion on the market. He says its fine but I see it in his eyes. He is the coolest kid, very social and has a great group of buddies. I just wish I could find something to relive this.

He also cannot go without socks on his feet. Even in hawaii over the holidays. He will do it to swim. He has been like this since he was an infant. He cant stand the way the carpet feels or his sheets.

We were told to go see a psychologist and psychiatrist but both were just as baffled.

Im not sure what I am looking for with this post for it seems to be so rare.

Has anyone found anything other than this post re: wet feet/hands - feeling of extreme dryness?

Also, what lotions have you found help?

Sincerely,

Leslee

Wetting feet.
by: jonniboi

Ever since I was a kid, I remember wetting my hands and feet every time. The feeling of it just feels right for me in a way, and I would come back repeatedly in and out from the restroom to splash my hands & feet with water.

Aside from that, I also sweat a lot from my hands and feet from time to time.

I would like to know if the people in this thread have an association with hand and feet tremors.

dry damp wet toes
by: Anonymous

My 8 year old son has been diagnosed with SPD, he often licks his fingers and rubs them between his toes. I often ask him why he does it and he says he doesn't like the feel between his toes (I assume he means the dryness). He often does this without even realising his doing it - I can be sitting down reading him a book and while I'm reading to him I notice him doing it. He tends to do it before bed every night also.

Recently I woke him up to go to the toilet throughout the night (we've been having a few recent bed wetting issues) and he was half asleep, but as he was sleep walking back to his room he licked all of his fingers and rubbed them together - Its the first time I have ever seen him do this.

I am assuming this is a sensory thing but not quiet sure...
