Hi to all looking for The Listening Program. Sharper Minds® is an Advanced Brain Technology (ABT) Provider that has worked with the TLP program since 2002, but been in the field of Brain Development for over 20 years. Once, we were the third highest volume reseller for ABT in the world, but times have changed as ABT now mostly offers online auditory training, which may work for one child but is a bit expensive in the long run for the entire families that we work with.

The Sharper Minds program is likely the broadest spectrum brain development program out there with "crazy good" results.

It uses balance therapy, sensory motor integration therapy, vision therapy, peripheral eyesight and tracking training, memory skills training, math skills training, handwriting training, reading training and more. We also offer an effective and inexpensive detox protocol, as well as the aforementioned auditory therapy. As part of our overall 14-18 month program, we generally do 40 weeks of auditory therapy which takes about 10 months.

Most dyslexic slow-reading children that we work with end up reading 300-350 words minimum with upper levels around 700-1000 wpm (that’s 2-6 times faster than the top 25% of readers). For non-dyslexic siblings who have good innate intelligence that go through the family program with their siblings, levels are often 1000-2200 wpm (crazy, isn’t it?). Scholarships for college and reduced outlay for tutoring and other therapies provide a multiple return on the very reasonable investment.

The program is rigorous, done at home anywhere in the USA (and perhaps other English-speaking countries), you are fully guided the entire way by our staff, and can be done at virtually any age. Best ages are 9 and up, though we work with children as young as 7. It really fits in nicely with a homeschool routine, but plenty of families with kids in public or private school use it as well. Autistic kids need special attention. Call for details.

Most of our clients come in from referrals, so we don’t do any advertising to speak of.

We use the ABT products (specifically the Level One kit (10 CDs) and the iListen Premium (~30 albums) for the auditory stimulation portion of our program.

For those interested in "used" sets, as of this post/comment, I do have two of the TLP Classic 8 CD sets that are complete with the Binder and all ABT materials (a very good program that some of our staff actually preferred to the Level One Kit). One set of CDs is slightly scratched from normal use, and the other is in essentially new condition. Call for availability and pricing. No headsets are included with the 8-CD sets, but we recommend the Sennheiser Pro Audio HD280PRO Headphone (new model) which at times goes on sale on Amazon (just missed the $20 off sale on Memorial day!).

Because Sharper Minds does not depend on just the TLP for our program, we may offer the systems at a discount from the ABT website. Since prices are subject to change and items are subject to availability, call for details or to discuss your situation.

I am waiting for the CD's for level 1 and booklet. I found the CD's off of ebay, and I am waiting for them to be delivered. At the moment, I am listening to hemisync, but I want to try TLP. I see that the Listening Program has different levels beyond level 1 such as Achieve.

Does anyone know if all those levels are necessary? Anyway, it seems kind of expensive to buy all that equipment and CD's new. I may just try the level 1 CD's and try to see how much they help me. I will put them on my IPOD.

The Listening Program is a specific set of cd's that , from what I see, are in the hands of providers only. That said, your therapist must be a certified provider of this program to be using it therapeutically with your child.

Given that this is being done in therapy, I have to wonder why the therapist did not know where/how to get the cd's for you to use at home (or didn't you ask?). Certainly a good program should not only want the provider to have you doing it at home too, but also give the providers that they trained information on how the parents can get these cd's for follow through at home.

The bottom line... only a certified individual for The Listening Program (TLP) would know, and, unfortunately I am not one. However, I do know one online source that I found... but, I really feel your therapist, who KNOWS your child and is currently working with him would be the best person to direct you to which cd's he should use, ehen, how much, and monitor his reactions and progress.

Because, even the online source I found was a provider who would be asking you questions to determine what your son needs... so, I would feel better directing you to your current provider.

I am less familiar with The Listening Program, and more familiar with The Therapeutic Listening Program (same idea, different approach). What I do know from some research on this is that The Listening Program (that you are referring to) training and cd's are NOT cheap... yikes!

But, if you have the money perhaps you could go to their training or get enough information form your current provider to be able to buy the program to use at some point?

But, for now... your best source for the cd's is indeed your current therapist who is working with your child. If, for some reason, she can't help you enough to be able to give you the resources you need to do it at home as well, I personally wouldn't use that program... I would switch to a different one (and maybe even a different *cringe* therapist).

There has to be monitoring, follow through, and home therapy as well. How often is she doing it with him now?

Does anyone else know different than what I am saying? Has anyone supplemented therapy by also doing it at home? How often do they want you doing this program? Do YOU know where to get the cd's?

Let us know. We would really appreciate any information you have.

I have the Listening Program with the iPod nano and headphones. They have the conductor on the headphones for the inner ear strength. Additional music for relaxation, stress relief, better sleep etc. I bought it for my
ADHD son who was non medicated at the time and it calmed him down great before bed. He is now medicated which makes him sleepier so his bed time is earlier which doesn’t leave us much time for doing his listening. Less than a year old. I paid $3000, I would like $2000 for it. the brain is analog - not digital. I used metal analog cassette tapes made from a Tomatis electonic ear (Steele and Steele, Saskatchewan, Canada) in the 80s/90s. I can no longer find this company. My (then 6 year old) son had great success with these tapes.

Since then, I have met parents whose children used CDs and had no success. I suspect that this is because CDs are digital. Is there anyone out there making cassette electronic ear recordings for sale??? thank you! -Kathy

We purchased The Listening Program for our daughter through her occupational therapist back in 2008. We bought the option of the 4GB iPod Nano that has 10 hours TLP level one library, plus 4 hours Sound Health library. We paid $995 for this back then, plus $150 for the special headphones. We liked this program a lot, but find that we aren't using it much since my daughter does not see the OT regularly anymore. We would love to sell it to someone whose OT has recommended it. If anyone on this thread is interested, please respond to my post and I can send pictures of the program, etc. I'll be listing it on eBay and elsewhere in the next few days. Thanks! Diana

There can be side effects, please leave this to professionals . There can be home programs but supervised to work through side effects. Some parents I wouldn't trust to do it as prescribed at home. That is where I have seen the most side effects. I have seen parents dump it off onto babysitters...The headphones on backwards, times not followed.

My teacher used the programe with me while I was studying for a degree , I was given a cd one at a time to listen to at home, and a response sheet to fill out each time I used it. I have to say it is brilliant! I could actually feel my ears and brain being stimulated. My listening skills and note taking during lectures improved such a lot.
I'm very grateful as I was able to do the course for no cost ,as it was part of another persons masters deg. My support teacher was a certified practicioner of the course.

Many parents are starting to use Filtered Sound Training. This is a well-researched version of Auditory Integration Training - the Berard Method, which runs for ten days only once a year, and has great results as per the countless articles and publications on it. It works on slightly different principles than the Tomatis approach - it is more stimulation and auditory exercise-based in its design. What is good news though is there is now a version that can be run at home, very successfully keeping the exact protocol of the original therapist-owned version. So parents can now have an affordable version running from their home computer. This saves time, money and inconvenience. More information can be found on www.filteredsoundtraining.net

Actually I believe the Listening Program produced by Advanced Brain Technologies, based in Ogden Ut, is quite reasonable compared to say, Tomatis training. I have friends who have used it very successfully with their children, and have also used it themselves. I believe it is about half an hour a day, and lasts a couple of months, but I think one friend has repeated it with a child and has gotten even more improvement the second time. The provider assesses a child to see if there are any special needs to be considered when a child first starts, and designs the way the CDs are used, but the parents are the ones who do the program at home with the child as far as I know. The provider monitors and adjusts the program, based on parent's feedback and seeing the child. Maybe the best thing to do is contact the company, and they should be able to help with questions?
