Sensitive Gag reflex?

Hello,I am having a disorder which I may think that it's the sensitive gag reflex,but I haven't seek any psychologist about this incident.




My symptoms are when smelling smelly things make me feels like gagging,seeing the dentist also makes me feel like gagging,when during exam times,I will be more stress and feel like gagging more,when I am called for a presentation.

I will also feel like gagging more,the worst is I can't wear clothes that is close to my neck as I will feel more like Gagging,I hope you all can give me suggestions on what to do as my parents do not want to refer me to a psychologist as it will affect my future. The only way I know to stop the disorder for a while is to breathe in and out of my nose heavily.

I have been suffering with with condition for 30 years. I don’t know what to do about it. I take cough drop to help me get through stressful situations.

I have the exact same thing and I have felt that way since I was a child. It has kept me from traveling, going for the jobs I want, kept me from the dentist for 14 years, and makes me socially awkward.

Most people don't see it because I have weird secretive coping mechanisms, but it's just hiding it. I'd rather be sick with the flu for a week than feel nauseated, which makes me super aware of my sensitivity.

My first suggestion is booze. It actually really helps you see what it's like to not be sensitive- since it dulls your senses. However...

The second (and better suggestion) would probably be hypnosis.

CBT never helped me.

You're not alone.

Best of luck to you and all that suffer with this. It's debilitating and horrible.
