Hypersensitivity to clothing/feeling "wet"

by Sharon

I have a six year old daughter that started refusing to wear jeans about 3 months ago. She has just started within the last few days feeling like her underwear are damp all of the time when they aren't and wanting them changed. This seems especially bad at night. She doesn't seem to have any other issues. Does anyone have any experience with this specific issue?

My daughter hated wearing underwear at all, I would eliminate them if you think thats the problem. My daughter is older and still doesn't wear them, or socks, and is very picky about clothes altogether. I have learned to go with the flow of things and not care what my children wear as long as their body is covered properly.

Also, you might want to figure out if anything else is going on at night, nightmares? trouble sleeping? I have learned with SPD one thing affects another. Sometimes i think i have one problem but it actually stems from something else.
Just a thought.

good luck

Very common among SPD

My child also despises jeans and many other types of clothing. She also cannot stand to be wet at times. Before she was diagnosed with SPD I tried to get her to wear clothes she didn't like anyway. I offered rewards even, and sometimes she would comply, but looking back I remember her behaviour problems were worse while wearing clothes she found so uncomfortable. I understand now, so she only wears stretch pants and t-shirts ,and we are both happier! I also bring her a change of clothes when we go out in case she gets even a tiny bit of moisture on her. Also her OT has us on a brushing schedule that seems to be helping lessen her sensitivity.

The symptoms of your child, have been described in previous posts, is also the case in my family. but I not found a lot of info on where to put this trouble if SPD or other, . ask if a OT can explain this?
