Early Intervention

My two beautiful kids who are 3 and 2, have sensory problems. they have both been working with an occupational therapist since they were both little babies. They both have struggled with most areas of dysfunction. But having the same wonderful people working with my children every week, for years in my sons case, has done great things for their development.
My son, as a little baby, was over sensitive to everything. I couldn't even take him outside in the wind because he would scream. He didn't like to be held at all. He as he grew never ever liked associating with other kids or people. I was a worried parent! Just so much I got to know but others thought something was wrong with him.
The therapy took time. One thing at a time. Through all the play that they did. All the skills they used and the simple things they taught me, my son is thriving. He's in a pre-k school that offers occupational therapy and he will also continue receiving OT through another clinic in our town.
Couple weeks ago my son tells me, " I want to give my best friend a Valentine's card". This brought tears to my eyes because my son is associating with the kids at school. This is a giant step for him and a big deal. With my just turned two year old baby girl, I'm not even worried because I know more.
Education is the best thing when it comes to SPD. It has not been at all easy and I'm so glad that there is so much more awareness out on SPD. The past three years of living, watching, and learning has prompted me to make Occupational Therapy my career.
