6 year old licking hands

My 6 year old son was diagnosed with SID at the age of 3. We have been in OT since and he is now considered a boarderline case.




He recently started licking his fingers. He is the type of kid that couldn't tolerate anything in his mouth (including food) when we started. When I asked him why he was doing it, he said he liked the feel on his hands and in his mouth.

What ideas are there out there to redirect him?

Pls can you let me no what cream you found to stop you licking ya hands and feet as my son does the same and all so says it’s because they r dry he is 10 and kids can b mean thanks

I used to lick my fingertips when I was younger. My fingers turned to prunes in water. It was just something I needed to do.

My Son started licking his finger tips when he was about 6 six years and as he got older, I asked him, why he felt he needed to do it. He told me that his finger tips "tickled" and by wetting them it stop the tickle. Anybody else out there know of this particular feeling in their finger tips? He is 40 years old and he is still doing it.

Hi I know this is very very very old! But just incase someone may be reading who is wondering while their child may lick their hands..

As a child I use to lick my fingers and sometimes my feet. Everyone thought it was just a habit but the real reason was simply because they were dry.

It wasn't until I grew up and found cream that it stopped. And even to this day only some cream stop the horrible dryness and I can only use some bath products. Hope it might help someone

our 4 year old son licks his hands, especially when bathing him or putting lotion on his body, he licks his sister when she applying lotion, we have tried lemon and vinegar and he wont stop. we are thinking of trying pepper on his hands.

My son also has SPD he has now started licking his hands we started OT about 2 months ago his hair pulling has gone down tremendously but now the licking has started!

my 11 yrs old son constantly licking his hands and feet,and playing with the saliva in a bad way driving me crazy spitting and having sensory sessions and he cannot stop doing this please help

Gum, my son licks his hands and other peoples faces (I know it sounds odd) and even grocery store floors. The OT suggested chewing gum. He loves it (now we just have to make sure he keeps it in his mouth). It also helps with his teeth grinding.

try massaging your baby's hands after they wipe with a sunscreen for children, in some cases improves the hassle
