Need help

I have a 8 year old boy who has been diagnosed with everything from anxiety, ADHD, bi polar, ODD. The medication don't work and no body can tell me why he is so hard to deal with in a public situation. Everyone says that he is doing it a purpose but I don't think that is the case. Because when he can't handle everything around him, he runs and find someplace to hide. This is becoming a huge problem because he hates change, and cant tolerate touches especially from strangers. But because he doesn't dislike people among other reasons he is not considered autistic. I don't know what to do and it is getting harder and harder to get him even in the appointment for people to look at him. What do I do? Most the time he is a very active sweet child until he melts down.

Help for mom with public problems for her son
by: Anonymous

Has anyone ever mentioned Aspburgers to you???? It is in the Autism Spectrum. Your son sounds an AWFUL lot like my own 8.5yr old. We didn't know what was going on, and finally b/c of his OT, we discovered he has asbergers. Just food for thought. YOU know your son better than anyone else.......trust what your gut is telling you, & do as much research as you can

Has your child ever been tested for food allergies? Sometimes it's the foods that we eat that sends our nervous systems into a tizzy. It's worth a try. Good luck to you.

Diet changes
by: Anonymous

Try taking all Red 40, Yellow 5 and Sodium Benzoate out of his diet. My cousin has a daughter that had just a bunch of odd behaviors including melt downs and self injurious behavior. When she took the dyes and preservatives out of her diet she saw a HUGE improvement. Good luck!

there is hope

soft talking, lots and lots of squeezes and hugs when he acts up..it releases endorphins into the blood stream..joint compressions while you squeeze with soft calming words will calm him down...also always let him know when there will be a bunch of people...give him an out, possible going to the bathroom for a while...it is a quiet private place...and always hold him and pray that God will release his blessing on him when he is acting out...it really does work.

You need an OT
by: Anonymous

Find an OT in your area that deals with SPD. It will change your child's and your lives! It sounds to me like he is going into "fight or flight" mode because of sensory over load. I can tell you from my own son's experiences that it is not an easy journey but things will improve tremendously with the help of an OT.

your not alone

My heart goes out to you. I know first hand the difficulties you are going through. My son is 10 and
does not like public places. He has been diagnosed
with everything from mild CP SPD PDD ADHD and global
developmental delays. We homeschool because he does not do well with more than 1-3 people around him. He is getting aggressive, and going after me 2-3 times a week. The MD increased his meds but no change.I don't know where to turn for help, every doctor tells us something different.
